U8s vs. Pontefract

Great conditions up at Manley Park as the U8’s embark on their first season in the Garforth junior football league.

We’ve had a few weeks of training, a few training matches, and we’ve worked hard over the last few weeks and this morning it was time to implement what we’ve been practising on the field against Pontefract, we were looking awesome in our new kits sponsored by Amirah Spice Indian takeaway

Due to warm weather we split it down into 4 x 10 minute matches

Game 1 This was a close match with nothing in it at all, there was chances at both ends with both sets of players playing some great football, Dylan was solid at the back, using strength and pace to nullify any attack from the opposition, Frankie in goals made some great saves and good distribution, Toby and Archie combined well, and we’re creating chances and driving forward with pace, Harley (when he was on his feet) was up

And down the pitch getting in good space and making good decisions on the ball

Game 2 This was a end to end match, battling hard, Archie in goals, great saves, and big strong kicks, Toby showed great skills, and great passing, and was linking up with Kyron fantastic who was playing wide, Franklin was up front and always finds space, was unlucky not to get on score sheet today but the opposition keeper was outstanding in the first 2 matches, but his footwork is very skilful and slick, Dylan was again a handful, coming from a rugby background he has great physicality and isn’t scared of contact and really dominates in duals.

Game 3 This half was again very close, which is fantastic as both teams were battling. Toby was GK this half, made crucial saves, and used his quick thinking and power to get the ball up field. Franklin was again finding his self in great positions, and again was denied by the opposition GK, Frankie was full of confidence, defending hard and then also transitioning well into attack, scanning, and looking for team mates.

Harley and Dylan put a big shift and always looked a threat when in possession, both have great pace and we’re reading the game well to get the ball in to space to Franklin who was always ready to receive it.

Game 4 The final quarter was a great finish to the match, both teams were wanting the winner, and both were creating chances, Kyron went in goals and was outstanding, Toby was defending for his life and was and our midfield Archie, and Harley, was battling for the ball, and winning first and second balls every time, Frankie’s never give up attitude was class and his persistence to always win the ball back played a crucial part in the winning goal that Harley nearly put away, a few changes saw Franklin go back on and Dylan took over Toby at the back to maintain our super strong defence to see the game out.

Opposition Coach MOM - Dylan

The opposition couldn’t praise Dylan enough, stating he was a beast at the back and throws him self about showing no fear.

My MOM - Full Team - I think you all played outstanding, you all Listened, showed great team work, and great passion, but most of all you all enjoyed your self and played the match with smiles on your face.

A well deserved win and start to the season, and that’s down to your hard work you are all putting in. Proud of you all

Big thanks to Matt (Toby’s dad) for reffing, great job mate, and thanks to parents for helping pack up.

Big shout out to our U8 sponsors for 2023/24
