U8s vs. Morley

Our little ones were away today at Morley Glen, a tough pitch with a ridiculous slope, and only 5 players, and two of the opposition kids absolutely towering ours meant we were up against it from the off this morning.

It was a big effort required today from the lads as we had some last minute non attendees, so we didn’t have the luxury of any subs and this started to show as the game went on especially playing up hill in the final two quarters.

We started slow which seems to be the norm for us but we grew into the match as the game went on and looked more confident.

Toby and Archie rotated around defence each quarter and both did a sterling job, they tackled tough but fair, and put some crucial tackles in against the bigger players, both looked calm and started to string some good passes out from the back together through the field. Kyron did the full match in goal which seems his new preferred position and he did fantastic - he made save after save and distributed the ball out well to team mates, Harley and Franklin were in midfield and were confident on the ball and making good runs forward. Franklin again so close to getting on the score sheet and his effort was great to see. Harley was the one putting the ball away for us this morning with his quick pace, and fearless challenges to win possession back, then finishing with composure in front of goal.

Archie and Toby also rotated around up front, both have a great link up play and understanding with each other, and both caused the Morley defenders trouble. Toby was the other scorer with a great finish hit with power and precision.

MOM - full team, every kid was tired, all played the full match, didn’t moan, and all put 100% in and had great attitudes and sportsmanship all game, great team work this morning. Massive well done boys!

All in all a good match, against a nice fair and friendly opposition, the game was played in the right spirit, with lots of smiles and lots of goals and every kid walking off happy.
