U17s vs. Wortley

Another tough day at the office for the under 17's as they faced Wortley at Manley Park.

This season the age group has dwindled to just three divisions and with promotion secured last season, the lads are now facing some stern adversaries in teams who in some cases were two divisions above last year.

After the shambolic lack of effort and positive attitudes against Wrenthorpe last week, Wednesday's training session had focused on having fun and working as a team. With the quality of teams in this season's division 2, the only expectation is "try your best to the end and have some fun", two things which the lads gave in abundance today.

Despite losing this game 10-0 OWLS reduced the losing deficit compared to last Sunday and against a more organised, skilful, and determined opposition.

Plenty of positives on show today from every player, plus some much improved attitudes and maturity from others.

Although the score line reads "spanking", this game was anything but and OWLS enjoyed some lengthy spells of possession, quality passing, and some highly creative flare especially when attacking.

Today's player of the match was awarded to Jack who not only put a shift in like the rest of his teammates; he remained composed and focused all throughout the game enabling him to carry out his instructions to the letter, with a sprinkle of quality turns and precision passing to boot.

Good to see plenty of smiles in today's game as the lads showed three things in bucket loads: maturity, dignity and camaraderie, trying their best, accepting the result was the best they could do and having fun doing it.

We also have to give them a big round of applause for supporting the FA's play safe day and donning these impossibly tight arm bands and smiling for the team photo whilst their circulation was cut to their arms.

Well done lads, keep going and keep enjoying it. That's what it's all about.
