A fantastic gala weekend has come to an end. I'm incredibly proud of the amazing effort of the dedicated team of volunteers who have helped out over the last four days to bring players and teams from across the county and beyond to this event.

The monies raised will go towards the club’s funds - we put everything back to pay for educational courses for our coaches and officials, buying equipment such as new balls, line paint and goals, paying rent to Rodillians and contributing to celebration events such as the Christmas parties for the teams.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Karen for the huge amount of work that goes in to organising an event like this, the likes of which can only be provided by the many faces we have seen at the club over the last few days - some for the full duration and some for a few minutes here and there, but all making equally vital contributions.
Whilst I am sure that the total amount raised will make the event a huge success for the club in monetary terms, this pales into relative insignificance at the side of the contribution and sacrifices made by so many volunteers across the whole weekend and it is this combined effort that makes the club successful and will hopefully see it start to grow again over the next five years, as we look to increase not only our number of teams but also our community, through organised events and social gatherings where everyone feels like a valued member of Wakefield OWLS.
I hope that those who volunteered to help with the gala can take a moment to reflect on what they did over the weekend, which made it such a an amazing event. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and on behalf of Wakefield OWLS.
My own memories of this weekend are of new friends made (bonds forged through initiative, fun and teamwork), happy, smiling faces and a sense that Wakefield OWLS took a giant step towards realising our long term vision, "to make sporting activity available to the community and to make sport an integral part of the community. Encouraging regular challenging fun activities in an inclusive, safe and nurturing environment!".
