U8s Girls vs. West End Park

Today saw the U8 girls take the trek down the M62 to West End Park for their last match of the season against Goole Town.

Quarter 1 - Owls defence seemed to take some waking up initially and Goole capitalised on this taking the lead early on. we were quick to respond and knuckle down with some good football played. Poppy and Esmai worked hard in defence to stop any attack and get the ball back up field. Ellie took Owls first corner of the game which was a lovely ball in that found the back of the net from a Goole player putting the score back level. With this the girls heads raised and they were a different team to the first 5 minutes played, feeding out wide from Amy in goal to Esmai and up to a waiting Izzy who secured Owls second goal of the day.

Quarter 2 - Amy remained in goal for this 10min and took ownership of her box, ensuring she scooped every ball up that came her way. Esmai pressed up field this quarter to work with Izzy and as always was there to support defence when it was needed. Daisy and Lena were the owls solid defence for the quarter, they pushed up on attack but made sure they were ready when Goole gained possession of the ball. We saw Izzy take on board the last few weeks in training. Having run the length of the field, a look up to check and realising the time was there another tap of the ball to put her a little closer to the target before blasting another home 1-3 Owls.

Quarter 3 - Poppy pulled on the gloves for this 10 & made some crucial stops but Goole were able to find the back of the net to bring them back into the game at 2-3. Ellie took a long throw down the line to Lena who found the feet of Amy waiting in the box whos shot was just wide of the post. Amy had a few attempts at goal today and was unlucky not to find the net. Daisy again made some cracking blocks in defence, was quick to get the ball away from Owls danger zone and started to move up field when in possession or had a corner. Goole defence was starting to tire and Owls quickly run through the gaps with Ellie scoring another 2 well taken goals. 2-5.

Quarter 4 - Izzy took the last 10 in nets & we mixed the team up with Poppy & Lena pressing up front and Daisy and Esmai covering defence. It started a little frantic with the girls chasing a ball until they relaxed and started passing the ball around. A great tackle from Daisy and the link to Esmai and feed into Poppy saw a lot of bodies in the Goole box. With grit and determination Poppy got stuck in and connected with the ball firing a shot past the keeper for her first ever goal. This must have given her the confidence boost she needed as she was quick to press upfield and find the back of the net again to make it 2-7 to the visitors. Owls continued to attack for the quarter and Ellie made it 2-8 with a lovely strike from outside the box into the bottom corner. Still pressing ahead until the very last blow of the whistle saw so much action in the Goole box and Lena firing past the keeper for Owls final goal to bring the score to 2-9.

Opposition player match - Ellie Parents player match - Every single one of them

The girls as always made us proud today. In their first season of football having been thrown together only a few months ago they’ve shown grit and determination week on week. They’ve had ups and downs but good grief they have come so far!

They’ve listened and to see them play football now it’s like watching a different set of kids.

Next season sees us move to 7v7 and we are ready to take on the challenge!!!
