U16s vs. Allerton JFC

Today saw the u16s kick off their home fixtures against Allerton JFC who were new opposition for us. The game started with OWLS controlling a lot of the possession and passing the ball quite nicely.

The main focus today was to be better organised under long balls through the air, something the team has worked really hard on over the last few weeks- this was all going very nicely to plan and we looked much safer under the long ball today.

The first goal of the half though went to the opposition, finding themselves with the ball at their feet in our box they managed to slot the opener. This was followed in fairly quick succession by a 'cheap' free kick outside our box that they manged to sneak home to make it 2 nil.

To be fair OWLS were very unlucky to find themselves behind as Corey, Ethan, Tom K, Aidan and Mason all had chances to get us off the mark. Confidence was now down though and Allerton took advantage of OWLS frustrations to bag a third- OWLS though steadily eased themselves back into the reckoning and bagged themselves a goal through Ethan before the HT whistle. 1 3 HT.

The second half kicked off with OWLS determined to get themselves back on even terms as soon as possible, so much so that a cheeky shot straight from the restart found the back of the net and it was already back to 2 3. OWLS then continued to boss possession and steadily chipped away at the opposition- A clever run from Will Cooney who was one of our two Central Defensive Midfielders today saw him sprint into the box at pace and calmly smash the ball home for the equaliser.

Unfortunately then for a short period the team were getting overly excited and not keeping possession, this allowed the opposition to win a free kick which we didn't get well enough organised for and they were soon back in front 3 4.

The OWLS continued to show a great spirit though and for the last 10 minutes controlled the game entirely, it wasn't long before we were back on level terms once again, a headed goal this time from a throw-in on the edge of Allertons box again put away by Ethan. With around 8 minutes to go OWLS were now entirely on the front foot and the game looked to have only one potential winner, and this was the case as our 5th and a 4th for Ethan saw us take what proved to be the winner. The OWLS then saw the game out with some excellent and mature game management.

An excellent performance from the whole squad today so much so that we chose two MOM's which were awarded to todays centre backs Lennie and Jamie M.

What as difference a week makes. Everyone buzzing for the next match now as OWLS show terrific improvement week on week.

Final score OWLS 5 Allerton 4.

Next week home to Durkar.
