U13s vs Featherstone Flyers
Wow, U13s - what a game today! The actual "game of 2 halves".
We visited our friends at Featherstone Flyers today, always a great welcome and a fair game.
Owls started brightly and were always in control in the first 15 minutes, just couldn't find a way through.
Eventually, Owls ground down the opposition and debutant Hewa, scored Owls (and his) first goal. Again, Owls pressed and passed, but took a while before Hewa scored his second coming from some slick passing.
We went 3 up when Owen scored a lovely goal from Liam's pinpoint pass and we then hit 4 when Hewa scored his hattrick on his first appearance!
Then, ooooooooo, we got complacent, thought it would be easy and it really wasn't! Flyers scored 3 in quick succession and we were flagging. Then, we switched off, all of a sudden it was 4-4 and it could go any way. Flyers were literally flying, Owls couldn't get possession back and were struggling.
Then, 3 minutes from time, we won a free kick. Owen stepped up, we expected the usual top corner attempt, but he struck it low and straight into the bottom corner. 5 - 4 Owls!
A frantic last few minutes saw us hang on for a great win!
We saw today the thing I love about the squad, the digging in and grinding out a win. And each goal and great tackle was greeted with "well done" and high fives from teammates.
Captain Matthew deserves a mention, as he stepped up and changed positions to help out and gave his all.
MoM today went to Scaifey - his work off the ball was just brilliant, drawing defenders away, making space, amazing runs, excellent work rate and excellent communication.
Well done U13s, exciting times ahead!
