U12s Yellows vs. Wortley

Yellows 2 v wortley 2

Well that was entertaining …….

Today we travelled over to Wortley for a friendly match due to no league fixture, and the game was anything but friendly.

This team today is Carl’s first team who should be in higher divisions and our red team has played in previous seasons and at galas etc so I was expecting a tough morning but a good test, our boys thrived off this and we came straight off from the first whistle looking strong, passing around well and our formation was bang on, Nour opened the scoring with a great build up play and then calmly finishing off to take us in the lead 1-0

This took Wortley by surprise as they thought they were going to have a easy day also, they made a few subs and looked a bit stronger now and equalised with a free kick which left Ryan with no chance 1-1

It started to get tense from here on in the second half and some hard challenges were going on, Noah took a knock and as a result of it he was limping off, this changed the formation and dynamics of the game and we had to put Caiden in defence to cover Noah purely for his pace and tackling as we were exposed at the back on a few occasions, I must say he stepped Up and I knew he didn’t want to play there as he awesome in midfield but he stepped in and did it for the team and did an astounding job.

We continued to move the ball around really well, passing round in triangles and a beautiful ball through from Jacob found Kwami who went 1 on 1 with the GK and placed it beautiful bottom corner despite desperate shouts of offside from wortley 2-1 Owls.

Now things started to get heated as wortley didn’t like the way things were going, we were on the attack again and with a 50/50 ball Oli M went for it with there no 15 and oli used his body well shouldered him off the ball beautiful and got possession however no 15 didn’t like this and they squared up and no 15 started swinging at Oli M, the ref decided to send both off (totally wrong in my mind as no 15 was the initial culprit who instigated it) but ref decision is final so off they both went….! I will say I’m proud of Oli M and how he reacted he was calm but fully stuck up for himself when he became aggressive and I will back him all day long in that situation again.

This sort of killed the game off now and the flow of football had gone and tbh was just waiting for the final whistle to go, but in the dying minutes of the game Wortley caught our defence out pushing too far up and we lost possession and they capitalised on our 1 man defending and the game finished 2-2

Gutted as we deserved the win!

I thought every player today grafted, worked for each other, and put in a shift, Me and Keith are so proud of you all and the steps you are improving every week is immense. Well done everyone!

GOALS Nour Kwami

MOM Gilly - mine goes to Kwami he’s only been with us a few weeks and has settled in fantastic and has really stood out every match he has played and at training also, great attitude, polite, and a joy to have in the team.

Keith - Oli L, this lad is someone who you can depend on every week, he controls the game, helps his team mates, gives you that spark when the team need it, a real leader in the squad and he’s really is a fantastic young player who the team all thrive off.

Big shout out to Caiden for been the team player and sitting back in defence when Noah got injured, he was dying to push up, but remained disciplined and really kept us in the match at the end with his work rate and tackling. Well done.

You will be back up in midfield attacking next week I promise.

On completion of the game ted who is a Wortley old ref and a all round nice guy discussed the incident and he said there no 15 is a new player who has a reputation for foul play every week, and fully said our player did nothing wrong and the initial shoulder and challenge was perfectly fine, so it’s nice to hear this side from a neutral and a former referee.

Well done everyone!
