U12s Reds vs Yorkshire Amateurs

OWLS Reds U12 5 - Yorkshire Amateurs 1

It was a lovely, bright, sunny mid-morning kick off for the Reds today. It’s been a tough season so far, with some results narrowly escaping us. With managing to train together this week, we looked to be back on form during the warm up. Kev and I spoke to them about focus, discipline and teamwork, and the lads went out ready to show how we can play.

Our team today started with Zak in goal, Dylan/Oscar and Ellis at the back, Sam in CDM, Bailey and Daliso in midfield with Oli G and Kian on the wings, with Harry up front. The first half was 50/50, with Owls just edging it with chances but neither team could break the deadlock. Our defence stood firm and Zak made some confident saves. Oli G came closest to scoring on a couple of occasions, with his shots going just wide and over the bar. Kian was electric down the right hand side, and with a lovely ball over the top from Sam, also could have been on the scoresheet. 0-0

We had noticed that Amateurs only real source of attack was a long ball and quick counter attack, so at half time, during the team talk, we agreed to keep an eye on the balls through the middle but we also agreed that we must continue to play our quick passing and direct football, pressuring their defence. The goalie and defence stayed the same but we put Daliso & Bailey on the wings, with Kian and Oli in the middle and Dylan up front. This half we would be playing into the sun but slightly downhill, so we could use this to our advantage, with our speed and pace.

The change was instant. Kian drive through the centre and with a superb ball to the back post, put Bailey through for his first of the morning. 1-0.

Owls continued to press and really started to control the game. With a piece of individual brilliance, Daliso took on about 5 players downs the left wing, skilfully dribbling around them all. With his left foot he swung in a pin-point perfect ball for Bailey to slot in number 2. Bailey’s energy today was outstanding and caused the Amateurs players no end of problems. 2-0

Dylan pushed hard up front after playing the first 15 mins of the game at right back, and was rewarded for his efforts, after Bailey put him through, with a well taken goal only a few minutes later. 3-0

Kian’s determination and commitment today was brilliant. He played well both in the middle and on the wing, creating a number of chances and putting himself about. Owls’ 4th goal of the morning was a stunner, as he curled it past the keeper, off the post and in. Unstoppable! 4-0

With the last 5 minutes left, Amateurs pushed forward to salvage something from the game. We were after a clean sheet, so tried to sure up the defence and ply a bit of game management by putting Oli G at left back and having 4 at the back with Ellis joining Oscar in the centre. However, we couldn’t plan for Amateurs’ only goal of the game coming from a distance strike into the top corner, making it 4-1.

However, these lads aren’t the type to sit back and park the bus, and they took advantage of Amateurs’ press and beat them on the break, gaining a late free kick outside the box. Daliso whipped it in and Harry was in the right place at the right time to finish it at 5-1.

A superb performance from all the team and great to see them back to winning ways and enjoying themselves! In Kev’s words…”Just what the Doctor ordered!”

🏆🏆Oli G & Bailey - Outstanding performances from both these lads today, giving 100% for the team.

G - Daliso - Unbelievable skill and control, cutting through the opposition defence and brilliant physicality.

Kev - Bailey - Everywhere today. Excellent energy, positioning and caused the problems all match.
