OWLS U12 Reds 0 - HMW 1
A late kick off today and a trip over to Hemsworth for the Reds team. It was a really close match with end to end stuff from both teams. The full 60 minutes saw both teams battling for possession, putting in crucial tackles and last gasp defending. From the first whistle, Hemsworth came at us and we had to dig in deep. They had some very good, skilful players, that weren’t afraid to come at us. Zak, Oscar & Ellis faught hard at the back and passed the ball around confidently and at times showed real composure when under pressure. Good verbal communication between the lads helped them as the game progressed and tired legs started to creep in.
Kian and Oli G we’re in the centre of the pitch today and made some vital tackles, then distributing the ball out wide to the wings. Charlie and Daliso were our wide men today and made some superb runs, showing their skill and dexterity on and off the ball.
Harry and Sam were our attacking force today, but it just didn’t come off for them. Sam held the ball up well and Harry made some superb runs into the box, was in the perfect positions, but just put it wide twice.
Hemsworth just edged it today with a scrappy goal, which proved to be the decisive strike, before half time, as the lads struggled to clear it off the line.
The second half was very much of the same, with some well timed tackles from Kian, and great saves from Zak, keeping Hemsworth at bay, whilst Oli, Daliso and the twins kept running to create our chances. Kian came super close to the all important equaliser, as his long range shot just clipped the top corner and went over.
As the game went on, there were quite a few tired legs and frustration started to kick in, especially as the Hemsworth players were also using their mouths, with petty comments, to try to put our lads off. This wound our lads up, as we’ve always told them to let their football do the talking. Unfortunately, the second half proved fruitless for both sides and, after 2 gruelling 30 mins halves, on an unusually warm October afternoon, it ended 0-1.
Those 9 lads did well today and should be very proud of a hard faught, mature, spirited performance, that on another day, with a bit of luck in our favour, would have definitely been 3 points to the Owls. Onwards and upwards to the next game!
Kian - Clean sweep of the votes from the parents pretty much today, as his energetic, determined performance, showed how important Kian is to this team.
Daliso - Even though he didn’t feel well before the game, Daliso put in a shift, causing the Hemsworth defence all sorts of problems, especially in the 2nd half!
